Associate Charlie Edwards comments in City AM on the news that Crystal Palace are set to appeal their exclusion from the Europa League to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

"Crystal Palace's bid to appeal their exclusion from the Europa League raises compelling legal arguments under UEFA’s Article 5: Integrity of the competition/multi-club ownership.

"The appeal will go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), where the club will contend that John Textor - despite his stake in both Palace and Lyon - did not exercise “decisive influence” over more than one club. This is a key threshold under UEFA rules and the interpretation of said phrase could make or break the appeal.

"Crucially, Palace are also likely to point to UEFA’s inconsistent enforcement of Article 5. If they can show the rule has been applied unevenly across clubs or cases, it could significantly bolster their claim.

"One way or another, the result is likely to echo far beyond Selhurst Park."
