Simkins LLP is currently looking to recruit an Associate for its Music Group.

We are looking for candidates with some experience in the music business, with the ambition to bolster their knowledge-base and reputation, and the drive to build their own practice.

Candidates are likely to have at least 2 years post-qualification experience as a solicitor in a music business environment, either in private practice or in-house. They will certainly require the ability to handle the drafting and negotiation of commercial contracts in the music business and should be able to demonstrate a good understanding of how the business is structured and the key legal documents.

Candidates will have good technical drafting skills and a solid understanding of the principles of contract law and copyright.  They should also bring a practical approach to their work and be solutions-driven.  An eye for detail and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving is essential.

They should have the ability and resilience to handle matters on their own to an appropriate level, but also the self-awareness to know when to seek assistance and supervision.  The ability to work in a team is highly valued at the firm.  We will expect candidates to have fronted contract negotiations and to be able to demonstrate they can provide real value to clients.

We are looking for candidates with a good entrepreneurial flair, and it is critical that all candidates have a desire to build their own practice in the music industry and to be able to demonstrate how they will put this into practice.  They must also demonstrate a commitment to high levels of client service and the flexibility to deliver work product to tight deadlines.

Remuneration will be at West-End market rates, depending on experience.
