Paddington Bear franchise takes action over unofficial merchandise

Partner Jim Dennis comments on the news that the company behind Paddington Bear has been granted a High Court injunction against a London souvenir distributor, which it claims has infringed its copyright, in Law360.
“Intellectual Property Rights are the lifeblood of our creative industries. It is critical for character franchises like Paddington to be able to market genuine merchandise, especially with the launch of the musical imminent, without being undercut and tarnished by cheap knock-offs. Clearly the Paddington business had had some history with KAF’s unauthorised activities, decided enough was enough, and took out an injunction before the launch.”
Jim’s comments were published in Law360, 10 October 2025, and can be found here.
