Commercial Associate

Simkins LLP is currently looking to recruit an for its Commercial group.

The successful candidate will report to a Partner in our Commercial group who is responsible for our work in the advertising sector; however, all of our Associates are expected to work across a range of industry sectors and for a variety of different types of client (including corporates, entertainers, entrepreneurs, producers and high-profile executives). Successful candidates will therefore have a flexible and commercial approach.

Excellent drafting skills are essential for this role. Candidates may have gained such skills by working in private practice or in-house but will be required to demonstrate that they have experience in drafting complex commercial documentation, including service agreements, procurement agreements, IP licences and other general commercial agreements. Both an eye for detail and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving is essential.

We expect the successful candidate to be able to advise clients directly on the terms of agreements and to engage independently in complex negotiations. It will therefore be important for candidates to demonstrate experience in handling clients and an ability to run negotiations on a range of commercial agreements.

In terms of legal expertise, candidates will be expected to have a good understanding of, and experience in advising on, data protection, IP rights and contract law (including issues of interpretation and termination). An understanding of specific entertainment or advertising industry documentation would be useful, but not essential.

Simkins has a commitment to the highest possible client service standards. It is critical that candidates understand this commitment and can show an ability to turn documents and advice quickly and efficiently, and the flexibility to deliver work product to tight deadlines.

In light of the above requirements, candidates are likely to have at least 4 or 5 years post-qualification experience.

Remuneration will be at West-End market rates, depending on experience.
