Guardian Media Group signs film and TV deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment
Partner Jonathan Blair comments on the news that Guardian Media Group and Sony Pictures Entertainment have signed a licensing deal granting Sony exclusive first rights to develop Guardian journalism into TV and film, in Press Gazette.
"The reason for this deal is that often, great insights and informative narratives are not in the public domain but rely upon the in-depth research and unique access that journalists have as a product of their origination. These articles will have separate copyright.
"It is these articles that shall be the basis of the collaboration and can lead to some fascinating and original films, especially in the factual arena - for example an investigation unearthing a true crime story will have great potential."
